The Bachelor’s degree in Psychology provides the first-cycle education required, though not sufficient, for admission to the Portuguese Psychologists’ Association. A Master’s degree in Psychology is required to practise psychology independently.
Reflecting the need to discuss psychology-related issues outside the classroom setting, the Psychology Students’ Association (NEP) at the University of Maia (UMAIA) was founded in 2009 by a group of students on the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
The aim of the NEP is to organise activities, events and training sessions that meet the interests and needs of students across the various levels of study in Psychology. Thus, since its foundation, the NEP, in addition to fostering an educational component, has played a significant role in promoting extra-curricular interaction between lecturers, students and their families, notably through the event known as the “Psychology Cultural Soiree”.
Topics such as a successful educational pathway, the reality of the job market, and Psychology in Portugal sparked the desire to create a student-led project for students, where a space dedicated to critical reflection, creativity and the search for answers and solutions could emerge.

The NEP’s work is designed to benefit all Psychology students, and we therefore hope that the entire community – both staff and students – will play an active and collaborative role in the various initiatives organised throughout the academic year.
To ensure this project is a success and reaches everyone, we are counting on your support to help it grow and thrive.
